Senior C++ Encoding Engineer

We are looking for Senior C++ Engineers to join our encoding and transcoding platform teams, responsible for advancing our in-house video processing stack. You will work across performance-critical C++ components powering real-time encoding, packaging, encryption, and delivery of live video to millions of global viewers. The role spans codec performance tuning across CPU and hardware accelerators, managing streaming formats (HLS, DASH, CMAF), and building the binaries and pipelines that take this stack to production.
 

The ideal candidate will be an engineer who is able to dive into old modules "that just work", cutting through the legacy to make the improvements needed. Such a candidate will be happy to work in a highly demanding, dynamic, and flexible environment where a proactive attitude and eagerness to learn are highly valued. They will be joining highly experienced and skilled teams working on world-leading engineering problems on a global scale.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize performance-critical C++ components within the video encoding and transcoding platform.
• Advance the in-house video processing stack, including real-time encoding, packaging, encryption, and live video delivery.
• Perform codec performance tuning across CPUs and hardware accelerators to ensure high-efficiency processing.
• Work with and maintain support for streaming formats such as HLS, DASH, and CMAF.
• Build, maintain, and optimize the binaries, pipelines, and tooling that take the video processing stack to production.
• Analyze, update, and improve legacy C++ modules, ensuring stability while introducing modern enhancements.
• Collaborate closely with expert engineering teams in a fast-paced, demanding environment, proactively solving global-scale video engineering challenges.

Requirements

• Extensive C++ experience, applied to performance-sensitive, real-time systems.
• Hands-on exposure to x264, x265, NVENC, or similar codec implementations and APIs.
• Proven experience optimizing for constrained compute environments (CPU, GPU, memory, latency).
• Familiarity with build systems, binary distribution, reproducible builds, and CI/CD for native components.
• Collaborative engineering experience in an agile, delivery-focused environment.
• Understanding of OTT streaming formats (HLS, DASH, CMAF), DRM, bitrate ladders, muxing, and manifest generation.
• Fluent in English and excellent communication skills.
• Ability to work as part of an international, distributed team and resolve potential issues and challenges that come with remote work.

Valued optional skills

• FFmpeg, GStreamer experience (Our stack is similar but not dependent on these).
• Kubernetes.
• Experience with low-level debugging, profiling, multithreading, and memory management.
• AWS, GCP, Akamai, Linode Cloud tooling.
