Data Architect (Microsoft Azure / Microsoft Fabric)

We are seeking a Data Architect (Azure Data Architect or Data Platform Architect) to design and lead the build-out of scalable, AI-ready data solutions using Microsoft Fabric and the Azure data ecosystem. In this role, you will translate business goals into robust data architectures that are secure, performant, and optimized for analytics and AI. You will define how data flows from raw ingestion (bronze) through transformation (silver) to curated, analytics-ready models (gold), collaborating closely with engineering and business stakeholders to enable data-driven insights.

Responsibilities

• Design end-to-end data architectures in Microsoft Fabric, defining ingestion, transformation, and curation patterns that support analytics and AI workloads.
• Ensure efficient replication, synchronization, and data flow across Fabric workspaces and multi-zone environments for data lake architectures.
• Align data architectures with Microsoft’s Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF) and the Azure Well-Architected Framework to maintain consistency, scalability, and governance.
• Partner with stakeholders to understand reporting, analytics, and AI needs, designing scalable and flexible data models.
• Define structures, metadata, and access patterns that make data discoverable and usable for AI workloads such as RAG, intelligent search, and summarization.
• Implement encryption at rest and in transit, role-based access controls (RBAC), and data masking to meet enterprise and client standards for data governance and security.
• Guide architecture decisions related to Fabric SKUs, OneLake storage, and data refresh strategies for performance and cost optimization.
• Collaborate with Data Engineers to translate architecture into delivery, promote data quality, and ensure design consistency.
• Produce reference architectures, blueprints, and reusable standards to accelerate future projects while maintaining governance consistency.

Requirements

• 7+ years in data architecture, data engineering, or data platform design, with at least 2 years in the Microsoft Azure ecosystem.
• Proven experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Synapse, and Power BI.
• Strong understanding of data lakehouse design, ELT/ETL patterns, and schema evolution.
• Proficiency in SQL and working knowledge of Python for automation or validation tasks.
• Familiarity with data governance, metadata management tools such as Microsoft Purview, RBAC, encryption, and privacy best practices.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across disciplines.
• Strategic thinker comfortable in AI-ready, iterative, and client-focused environments.
• Must have at least 4 hours of overlap with the Eastern Standard Time (EST) zone.
