Backend Developer (GIS mapping)

We are seeking an experienced Back-End Developer with GIS Mapping expertise, a strong background in server-side development and hands-on experience working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial data. You will play a key role in building, optimizing, and maintaining GIS-enabled applications.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain back-end services that support GIS mapping applications and spatial data processing.
• Implement and optimize APIs for handling geospatial data, ensuring high performance and scalability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate GIS data with applications, ensuring seamless interaction between the server-side and mapping interfaces.
• Work with geospatial databases such as PostGIS or MongoDB with geospatial queries to store, retrieve, and manipulate spatial data.
• Implement data pipelines to process, analyze, and serve geospatial data from a variety of sources (e.g., satellite imagery, shapefiles, GPS data).
• Integrate third-party GIS services and APIs, such as Google Maps, Mapbox, or ESRI ArcGIS, into backend systems.
• Troubleshoot and optimize back-end systems for handling large volumes of spatial data efficiently.
• Ensure the security and integrity of spatial data while adhering to best practices in back-end development and data management.
• Collaborate with GIS specialists and stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Stay updated on new GIS technologies, tools, and best practices, integrating them into the development process.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a Back-End Developer with hands-on experience in GIS mapping and geospatial data.
• Proficiency in server-side languages and frameworks such as Node.js.
• Experience with geospatial databases such as PostGIS, MongoDB (geospatial queries), or similar.
• Strong understanding of GIS concepts such as coordinate systems, projections, and spatial data analysis.
• Experience in integrating and using GIS APIs like Google Maps, Mapbox, ArcGIS, etc.
• Knowledge of handling and processing spatial data formats like GeoJSON, shapefiles, KML, or WKT.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS) and deploying GIS applications in the cloud.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills, with a focus on performance optimization for geospatial applications.
