Position Overview: Staff Backend Engineer

As a Staff Backend Engineer, you’ll be at the core of designing, building, and maintaining backend systems that support our client’s high-volume, high-availability platform. You’ll collaborate with front-end engineers, product managers, and leadership to deliver efficient, scalable, and secure backend solutions. This role is ideal for an experienced backend engineer passionate about creating systems that support complex workflows and large datasets.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and optimize backend services and APIs using backend languages like Python, or Golang, ensuring high performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Contribute to a resilient backend architecture, leveraging Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and managing microservices-based designs for platform stability and performance.
• Build and maintain efficient data storage solutions with SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Redis), optimizing for high-volume data, security, and performance.
• Collaborate closely with front-end engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to ensure cohesive, high-quality product delivery that aligns with strategic goals.
• Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices with tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi to automate and manage cloud infrastructure on AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Uphold code quality through peer reviews, automated testing frameworks, and adherence to best practices in CI/CD using Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, or similar tools.
• Proactively troubleshoot and resolve performance bottlenecks, scalability challenges, and technical issues across the backend stack.

Technical Proficiency

Must have experience with several of the following:

• Programming Languages: Advanced proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Python or Golang, with experience in Java, Node.js, or similar languages a plus.
• API Development: Expertise in designing and implementing RESTful, gRPC, or GraphQL APIs, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and security.
• Databases: Strong experience with SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Redis), with a focus on data modeling, indexing, and optimization for high-volume data.
• Cloud Platforms: Proficiency with AWS, GCP, or Azure, including deploying and managing backend services in a cloud environment.
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi for managing and automating cloud infrastructure.
• Microservices & Containerization: Expertise in designing microservices architectures and containerization with Docker and Kubernetes.
• CI/CD & Testing: Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD) and experience with automated testing frameworks to ensure high reliability and stability.

Qualifications

• 6–8 years in backend development, with a track record of building and maintaining large-scale, production-grade applications.
• Deep expertise in backend technologies, data storage solutions, and cloud infrastructure for performant, scalable solutions.
• Strong analytical skills for diagnosing complex issues and optimizing performance.
• Collaborative communicator, able to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
• Experience in mentoring junior engineers, and fostering a culture of growth and excellence.
• Fluency in English and Spanish.
